I have a problem.
I’m very impatient.
In a world where I can find the answer to nearly any question in less than 5 seconds, it becomes harder and harder to be patient.
If my internet is loading a little too slow or a text message is taking a little longer to send than usual, I close my eyes and huff and puff… as if that’s going to make it go faster.
I guess the first step to solving a problem is to become aware of it, right?
Over the years my patience has improved little by little…
But it’s still very far from where it needs to be.
One NEEDS to be patient.
That’s because success in life depends on it… especially long term success.
As humans we naturally gravitate to what’s easy.
We don’t like being out of our comfort zone.
We fall in love with fast gains and instant results… because they come easy.
My uncle once told me that there is no such thing in life as fast money, and anything that comes to you fast can go just as quickly.
I’ve seen it first-hand…
I’ve seen family members and friends lose everything — including their lives — for simply falling in love with the instant gain.
“Anything that comes quick is the devil and run away from it.” — Dame Dash
Anything that comes to you easy and quickly isn’t worth having…
The other day, I wrote an article about playing the lottery and how people play it because they believe they have to get lucky to live the life that they desire.
Well there is another reason why people play it…
Because it’s the one chance they have at getting rich without doing a damn thing for it.
It’s kind of why everyone is so infatuated with cryptocurrencies…
The idea of making a lot money from doing little to nothing is very tempting.
(And before you think I’m a “crypto hater” — I probably have more money invested in it than 98% of the self-proclaimed gurus…Like I mentioned earlier, I’m impatient. I love fast gains and instant results too.)
But there is a reason why nearly 70% of lottery winners end up broke within seven years, and sometimes even die.
That’s because anything that comes easy isn’t worth having.
Here you can actually see true stories of people that didn’t have too much luck after winning the lottery.
It’s quite frightening…
Dame Dash’s quote might be closer to the truth than we think.
The point is, you can’t get instant results and expect them to last…
They say “patience is a virtue.”
The older I get, the more I understand that statement.
Your ability to wait for things to happen is a sign of true wisdom and virtue.
Because being impatient usually will lead to you wasting energy with irrational behavior, which will always be detrimental to your long term success.
But obviously, becoming more patient won’t happen overnight… ironic, right?
Each day try to be a little more patient.
I’ll join you.
I will try to close my eyes and huff and puff a little less when that text doesn’t go through instantly or when my internet takes a few extra seconds to load.
Patience is key in every facet of life.
